Pongal / Ven Pongal Recipe
Ingredients:
- Moong dal / Pasi parupu 1/2 cup
- Raw rice / hand pounded rice / arisi 1 cup
- Ginger / Inji 1 inch
- Ghee / oil / nei 1/2 cup
- Curry leaves/ karuverpilai
- Cashew / munthiri
- Pepper / milagu 10 nos
- Jeera / siragam 1 spoon
Directions:
Once the ghee / oil is hot add a spoonful jeera and pepper
Add 1/2 cup of moong dal along with jeera and pepper and fry it for a minute
Add rice to the same and saute for a couple of minutes in a medium flame
You can see the nicely roasted rice and dal
Now add 5 cups of water and salt. You can add green chilli now, (I'm making for kid so I'm not adding chilli..) and allow it to boil
Check the salt and pressure cook it for 2-3 whistles and simmer it for a minute and switch off the flame.
Once the pressure releases open the lid and your Pongal will be like this
Now add some boiling water and adjust the consistency how you like.
Once it's done check the taste..and add salt or pepper powder if needed
Add ghee / oil and heat it up
Add cashews and fry in a slow flame
Add ginger and curry leaves once the cashew is golden in colour
Transfer the same to Pongal and mix it well
Pongal is ready π It goes well with Sambar and coconut chutney..
Note:
If you want you can make it in a different way... pressure cook moong dal and rice first then finally heat up the kadai add jeera,pepper powder, ginger, curry leaves , cashews and transfer on top of Pongal..it will also tastes good.
